Exploring Interactive Digital Media Grade: 9
Exploring Interactive Digital Media is a introductory, learn by doing course. Students explore the creation of websites, animations, VR experiences and games.
Students in this course will acquire beginning skills in coding, 2D and 3D graphics creation, user interface creation.
Developing job readiness skills such as personal responsibility, and collaboration, as well as Digital Citizenship are also important content in the course.
Intro to Interactive Digital Media Grade: 10
This course is an additional entry point to the full Interactive Digital Media program. It is a required course for the Vocational Diploma.
Students in this course explore new areas of digital media or expand their learning from Grade 9.
Projects in this year include Video creation and editing, Animation, Virtual Reality, 3D modeling and Game Level creation.
Job readiness and Digital Citizenship training continues from the Grade 9 level.
Interactive Digital Media Design Grade: 11
In this course, students explore processes of team development, project management, and project development.
Students will develop knowledge of web content development in the creation of an online portfolio.
Other course content includes the exploration and discussion of theories of Interactive Digital Media design including, Principles and Elements of Art, Perspective Theory and the Art of Illusion, Principles of Animation, Principles of Cinematography,
Psychology of Perception, and User Experience Design.
Students will explore the application of these principles in the collaborative development of a 3D game project.
Asset Creation for IDM Grade: 11
This course focuses on the process of creating 3D assets for Games, VR/AR, and Animations.
Students will be introduced to a variety of 3D modeling and sculpting programs, and will develop skills from assembly of primitive objects, to sculpting props, and environmental models, to the creation of characters.
Students will explore Modeling, Texturing (including UV projection), Lighting and rendering.
In the second term students focus on creating assets in areas of personal interest, including Concept Art, 2D and 3D graphics, animation and sound.
Coding for Interactive Digital Media Grade: 11
This course explores the fundamentals of Computer Programming in the context of Interactive Digital Media
Students will explore the use of variables, control structures, lists, arrays to control the flow of game play.
Students will apply these processes in the context of project development in Unity 3D, using C#. Students will explore processes for using the Unity C# library and additional libraries for UI, and AI, and the methods built into these libraries.
Project Management for IDM Grade: 12
In this course students will continue their development of project management processes.
Students will explore, develop and practice, team building activities and processes.
Students will use Task Management software, online collaborative tools, communication tools, and presentation software to synthesize, conceptualize, prototype, and present, solutions to client problems or needs.
Advanced Asset Development For IDM Grade: 12
In this course students focus on areas of personal interest in further exploration of Asset Development.
Students may explore areas such as, Concept Art, 2D Graphics, 3D Modeling/Sculpting, User Interface Design, Visual Effects for Games or Film.
In the process of exploring areas of interest, students will document their development processes, and present examples of their conceptual, prototype and final art.
Students will integrate their assets with other students in the creation a collaborative project
Advanced Coding for IDM Grade: 12
In the course students will explore advanced coding techniques for IDM including web and game database development, multi-player game development, VR/AR experiences or other areas of interest
Students will explore the process for developing in a collaborative environment using tools such as Unity Teams, Git, OneDrive, etc.
Students may also explore additional topics such as Artificial Intelligence as applied to Interactive Digital Media, including examples such as NavMesh Agents and PathFinding, and LearningAgents in Unity3D.
